Bill Hader was born in Tulsa, Oklahoma on June 7, 1978. He was raised by his father, Bill Hader Sr., an architect, and his mother, Sherri Renee, a dance teacher. He has two younger sisters, Katie and Kara. Hader attended Cascia Hall Preparatory School, a private Jesuit school in Tulsa. After graduating from high school, Hader moved to Los Angeles to pursue a career in comedy.

Hader began his career as a production assistant on the sketch comedy series, The Jenny McCarthy Show in 1997. He also wrote for the series.
