Mount Kerinci is a mountain in Indonesia. It is the highest point on Java Island, with an elevation of 3,805 meters (10,835 ft). It is located near Lake Malang in East Java.
Mount Kerinci is one of the main tourist attractions in East Java. The mountain’s name comes from the Javanese word kerinci meaning “heaven” or “sky”. In Hinduism and Buddhism, Mount Kerinci is considered to be sacred as it is believed that it was where Garuda landed after carrying off the corpse of Lord Vishnu (Vishnu Purana).
The mountain can be accessed by car through Karang Wanita village near Bandung city. There are several ways to get there from Medan, such as using a public bus or private car. If you choose to go by public transportation, it will take approximately four hours to reach Mount Kerinci from Medan city center. If you choose to drive your own car, it will take approximately three hours to reach Mount Kerinci from Medan city center.
The last 5 km from the summit are steep but with no obstacles. There are also several ways to climb up to the summit including using a rope ladder or scrambling up using rocks and trees for support. Some people go for picnics at the top of Mount Kerinci if they have time.
