The transmogrification system is one of the brand new parts introduced this time around in World of Warcraft: Cataclysm Classic, and one of the most exciting. This allows armor and weapons to visually transform into any other armor of the same type the player has learned or weapons.
World of Warcraft transmogrification is nothing less than a revolutionary change in how awesome (or edgy, or silly) your character looks. It also provides a nifty solution to the age-old problem of new expansion pack fashion faux pas, where you trade in the previous expansion’s impressive levels and armor sets for the hilariously mismatched greens you collected while leveling up. Of course, if you want to get the rare transmog, then you’ll probably need to buy WOW Cataclysm Gold in advance. If you want to skip this visually awkward stage, here’s what you need to know about transmogrifications in Cataclysm Classic.

How To Collect Transmogrified Appearances?
Whenever you acquire a new piece of uncommon or better quality equipment and bind it to your character – you do this by equipping it, which makes it untradeable – you “Learn” got that look. The same applies to any device in your bag and bank, assuming it’s tied to you. It also calculates gear from almost every mission you’ve completed previously. As a bonus, this also includes any options you didn’t choose from those missions. Of course, if you want someone to help you get gear, then you may pay some Cataclysm Gold.
When you see a piece of loot drop, including in the loot scroll window, in a player’s link, or on the Auction House, if you don’t, you’ll see the text “You haven’t learned this yet” at the bottom of its description. You don’t know about transmogrification yet. This is convenient because you can tell at a glance whether you already have the transmog appearance.
If you want to browse the collected appearances, click the Collection button on the minibar (horse head or Shift-P by default) and select the Appearances tab. You can cycle through the different armor pieces at the top and see the transmogrification options available for each piece.
In order to use an appearance, you must be able to equip that armor or weapon type, and if you are transforming a weapon, it also needs to be the same type. For example, daggers can only transform into other daggers, and mailbox items can only transform into other mailbox slot appearances.

How To Revamp Your Gear?
In order to make your current armor look like one of the other appearances, you need to access the deformer. These useful ethereal NPCs are found in Stormwind – Vashlin the Thaumaturge, along the canal near the cathedral – and in Orgrimmar, you’ll find Dushar the Twisted Weaver among the mutalisks. Talk to the shapeshifter and click on the armor you want to change and you’ll see different options. Click the option to see how your character will look, then press Apply to accept the changes.
Transformation requires a certain amount of WOW Cataclysm Classic Gold as support, the amount will vary depending on the armor slot.
To remove a deformed appearance, you can overwrite it with another appearance or hover over it in the deformer window and click the small recursive arrow on that section in the upper right corner and apply the changes. The transmogrification is permanent until overwritten, but if you change your mind, reverting to the original appearance is usually free.

Classic Transmog Looks To Get You Started
Old tier sets (and their similar pieces for other classes of the same armor type) are an excellent source for transmog gorgeous looks. Now might be the time to get back into those old single-player classic raids and dungeons for any looks you missed.
Some particularly noteworthy pieces include those with beautiful animations that also work in transmog, such as the wings for the Warlock level 6 helmet from Mount Hyjal Archimonde’s Helm Token, and the shaman from Icecrown Citadel Level 10 Shoulders and Spectral Shovel Teeth.
Transformation gives you a new reason to play dungeons, raids, and other content you’ve long since outgrown, although unfortunately, you can’t transform legendary items.
Here are some other top transmog ideas to help you roll in Cataclysm Classic:
- If you’re into role playing or goofing off, now’s the time to channel your inner lumberjack with a red lumberjack shirt (green quality shirts can be transmogrified, but they’re pretty much just a transmog item), paired with a nice low level Burning Crusade zone axes like the Reaver Scythe. Or how about a farmer in overalls and a shovel? Crafted items also work with transmogrification, as long as they are green quality or better and you bind them to your character.
- If you want something more revealing, consider Fankriss’s classic Patron Robe in Ahn’qiraj or the Black Mageweave Leggings for cloth wearers, or the Brutal Harness and War Bear Sweater for leather wearers. Mail wearers, check out the Blood Knight set. Plate wearers might consider the Emerald Plate or Glorious Set.
- Even if you’re playing a mission in a green environment, you can now have a ton of iconic weapons at your disposal. Think of the Hanzo Sword (or other color variants) as the Rogue’s classic katana look, or the quest reward Silver Avenger as your own personal lightsaber. You can show off your quest achievements in vanilla by transmogrifying a blessed (or cursed!) staff for a priest, a Rockdra bow for a hunter, or Quel’Selar for a warrior.
