It’s fun to go to any sporting event, but when you get to watch world-class action and use your binoculars to spot a celebrity or two? That’s even better.
For the most part, famous faces steer clear of sporting events because it’s usually impossible for them to watch the game without being mobbed by fans. However, some sporting events seem tailor-made for the celebrity experience; there always seems to be a celebrity or ten in the crowds.
If you’re eager to spot an A-lister while you’re at a sporting event, consider grabbing some tickets to the events outlined below.
The Super Bowl
It should come as no surprise that there are often many famous faces at the Super Bowl. After all, this event is much more than just your standard sporting event: it’s an out-and-out extravaganza that sucks in plenty of viewers who don’t usually watch sporting events.
You’ll find celebrities performing during the halftime show as well as watching the game from the stands. This event attracts the best of the best no matter who’s competing for the trophy, with celebrities such as Beyonce, Drew Barrymore, Paul Rudd, and Will Smith — as well as about a billion other famous individuals — all in attendance.
Cheltenham Festival
The UK’s Cheltenham Festival is a horse racing meet much like The Breeders Cup here in the US. While this prestigious event may not be the biggest meeting in the UK (that’s the Grand National), it does beat all other British equestrian events, hands down, when it comes to celebrity attendance. While you’ll find a selection of the UK’s most famous faces at the festival, the real draw is the number of Royal Family members that attend — virtually all of the big players in the UK monarchy will turn up for at least one day of the festival!
The royal connection extends to the races, too. The late Queen Elizabeth II, who herself was a renowned equestrian and owner of many talented race horses, had several runners competing in the Cheltenham Festival over the years, particularly in the Gold Cup.
The Monaco Grand Prix
Is it any wonder that celebrities flock to the Monaco Grand Prix? This is arguably the glitziest event of the year, and not just in terms of sporting events. Undoubtedly, one of the biggest reasons for its popularity is the location itself.
Monaco is a playground for the rich and famous, and things only become even more exciting when the Formula 1 teams roll into town. The celebrities that make the trip to Monaco are varied and come from all corners of the globe and industries. In one year alone, you’d have found the cast of Games of Thrones, Hugh Grant, Tom Brady, Kris Jenner and Alfonso Ribeiro sitting in the stands. That’s a pretty big who’s-who of famous faces!
Any Dodgers Game
If you want to see celebrities enjoying a game that isn’t a global event (such as the Super Bowl), then you have to go to where the stars live, Los Angeles.
The Dodgers have become the go-to team for celebrities in LA, and on any given night, you’ll find a handful sitting in some of the best seats in the house. Ashton Kutcher and Mila Kunis are regular attendees, as are Jennifer Lopez, Rob Lowe, and Larry David. And these are just the regulars: most celebrities who call LA home will swing by Dodger Stadium at one point or another!
Big-Ticket Boxing
If there’s a big boxing match taking place, then it’s worthwhile keeping an eye on who’s sitting in the expensive seats around the edge of the ring. These big boxing fights are there to determine who’s the greatest fighter of all, but the sheer atmosphere of the events always means that they’re a big draw with famous faces wishing to be part of the action.
In any case, ringside tickets can cost as much as $10,000, so only the rich and famous can afford to be there! For instance, at the legendary Mayweather v Pacquiao fight in 2015, you’d have found Knowles-Carters, Bradley Cooper, and Jake Gyllenhaal in attendance. Who knows what celebs you’ll spot if their rumored rematch goes ahead in Japan this year.
